Congratulations to Truc Phuong NGUYEN (PhD student in epidemiology within the QUALI-DEC project) for her scoping review, which was published on 25 May 2025 in EJOG (European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Reproductive Biology). This is a great recognition for her research work on the topic: ‘Decision support tools in childbirth: do they improve the quality of decisions, decision-making processes and health outcomes for pregnant women?’

Decision support tools in obstetrics and gynaecology are designed to help pregnant women improve the quality of their decisions, the quality of the decision-making process, their healthcare behaviours and their health outcomes. The active and meaningful involvement of women in decisions related to childbirth is a growing priority in maternity care. This scoping review focuses on the effectiveness of decision support tools for pregnant women in the context of childbirth. These tools not only improve the quality of the decision and the decision-making process, but also have the potential to promote the choice of physiological interventions and improve health outcomes, particularly when women are prepared to use the tool and receive support from health professionals. Although studies in low- and middle-income countries are still limited, the available data indicate promising positive effects, comparable to those observed in high-income countries.
